Getting there
Tangier is an hour by fast ferry from Spain, with an international airport and a high-speed train to Rabat and Casablanca. Here is every way to arrive, and how to get around once you are there.
| Route | Crossing | Arrives at |
|---|---|---|
| Tarifa | About 1 hour | Tangier Ville, in the city centre |
| Algeciras | About 1 to 2 hours | Tanger Med, about 40 km east of the city |
The Tarifa route is the easiest for visitors, as the ferry docks right next to the medina. Bring your passport. On some crossings passports are checked and stamped on board, so follow the announcements. Morocco is often an hour behind Spain, so check the times on your ticket.
Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport is about 15 kilometres south-west of the centre, with flights from many European cities. Taxis take around 20 to 30 minutes to the city.
The Al Boraq high-speed line links Tanger Ville station with Kenitra, Rabat and Casablanca. It reaches Casablanca in a little over two hours. Conventional trains continue to Fes, Meknes and Marrakech.
